About Me ✵ Ishita Garg
Hey! Ishita here. Yes, Ishita Garg — A UI/UX and Visual Designer. “Naam toh suna hoga.” 😉No worries if you haven’t yet but I’m working hard to make it a staple in the design industry. It’s a long journey ahead, but I’m here for the ride, and I hope you’ll join me.
In the beginning, my world was confined to the written word as I was “kitaabi-keeda my whole life”, where I thrived as an academic enthusiast. So after 12th I saw the perfect opportunity to awake my creative side and took a leap of faith to enter in this design industry. (all thanks to my mom for encouraging and supporting me to take this decision). I started as a Graphic Designer and a year ago, I shifted gears to UI/UX, driven by a passion for crafting interfaces that not only look good but feel right. My college, like many traditional degree programs, didn’t focus much on this niche, even though I majored in UI/UX. So, I’ve been learning and figuring things out on my own.
My educational journey, while rich in theory, offered little in the way of practical UI/UX expertise — a gap I bridged through self-learning and real-world experiences. This self-directed path led me to work with over 15 esteemed clients in these 3 years, leaving a trail of successful projects in my wake. with my most memorable project being a website revamp for NEC — yep, I was the sole designer on that biggie. Another special one was for Harisons Furnishings, full of twists that I’ll share in detail soon. Despite the current market downturn and the flood of unpaid internships, I’ve worked with names like Taj Palace and DAMAC Properties, taking baby steps toward making my mark.
But wait, there’s more to the story. Amidst the uncertainty of whether I could thrive in this field, a defining moment came when I participated in my first hackathon — and WON. It was a UI/UX hackathon, and we had only 24 hours to solve the problem, create the screens, prototype, and present our case study. Out of 50 teams, my team emerged victorious. A few months later, an Instagram acquaintance invited me to another hackathon. As an introvert, I hesitated but decided to take the chance. We cleared all three rounds, and in the last offline round, which was a Marketing hackathon organized by IIDE, our sleepless nights paid off, and we became the 2nd runner-up.
I had no prior knowledge of marketing, but I participated to learn something new. To date, I’ve participated in two hackathons and won both. It might sound boastful, but I’m still in awe — what if I hadn’t taken the chance? What if I had let my introverted side win? The success of these hackathons, where I was a newbie in one and clueless in another, was due to my willingness to push myself and take risks. A huge part of this success goes to the people I teamed up with — different in each hackathon but equally supportive, never backing down when things got tough. The people around you matter a lot. Not to mention, in the second hackathon, it was the first time I held a trophy in my hands. That day, I was proud of myself.
As for hobbies, well, I’m pretty straightforward — I love to sleep whenever I get the chance, unless insomnia strikes and I find myself wide awake, staring at the ceiling. But hey, if you’re someone who enjoys interesting yet ‘boring’ conversations, let’s connect! We can have a laugh about the quirks of life and design.
This article is just the beginning. I’ll be adding more content, diving deeper into projects, and sharing the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Keep an eye out for updates, and don’t hesitate to drop a comment or reach out. Let’s make this journey together! Meet me at [ishitadesigns] for some interestingly boring talks! Haha. 🚀
